A Matter of Scale…
|
I have had various enquiries about the size of Gunthwaite figures. Our figures are designed to be true 1/72 scale. Figures are typically 24 mm in height which corresponds to a person about 5' 8" tall (1.73 m) in 1/72 scale.
To date (up to release 4), figures have been modelled from a common dolly armature and therefore they have all been roughly the same height. That of course does not reflect reality and one comment on our first release of figures was that they did not reflect the fact that sailors were often smaller in stature than soldiers or airmen. New figures (which have yet to be released) respond to this comment and there will be a greater variety in the height of figures. Some new figures will be taller and others shorter, but obviously all within realistic bounds.
Gunthwaite figures are designed to accompany models of 1/72 scale ship and aircraft models. The question has been asked whether they would be suitable for 1/76 scale models (typically armour but also model railways). A figure 24mm in height would be about 6' 0" in 1/76 scale. This would still be within the bounds of realism.
However, a difference arises when equipment such as weapons arises. If you're a stickler for scale, mixing 1/72 and 1/76 is likely to be difficult because of weapons being different sizes. However to date no Gunthwaite figures carry weapons. Consequently, so far, we don't see any reason why, if you're a modeller of armour in 1/76 scale or a railway modeller, you cannot mix in Gunthwaite Miniatures.
